Many of us have met Vinesh Singh, the man from Fiji who uses the blue walker, during our visits to WCDF. He’s been in WCDF for about 3 years. He suffers from Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis) which is a disease caused by a soil born fungus which he (and many others) contracted when incarcerated in the San Joaquin Valley in California. For most people the symptoms are flu like and they get better without treatment. In some cases the disease is chronic and sometimes fatal. Vinesh has had Valley Fever since 2013 and it has caused scarring on his lungs and damage to his liver. He’s been able to keep the disease in remission through constant monitoring of blood tests and treatment, but it cannot be cured. He’s on the verge of being deported back to Fiji and is concerned because Valley Fever doesn’t exist in Fiji and cannot be monitored or treated there. As a last ditch effort he is asking us CIVIC volunteers to sign this petition asking the Fijian Embassy not to accept him back into the country.
