We, as Filipino citizens, have the right and duty to participate in helping our country's development and in fighting against corruption.
Our constitutional right to information on matters of public concern is enshrined in our Bill of Rights under our Constitution:
"Section 7. The right of the people to information on matters of public concern shall be recognized. Access to official records, and to documents and papers pertaining to official acts, transactions, or decisions, as well as to government research data used as basis for policy development, shall be afforded the citizen, subject to such limitations as may be provided by law."
We are the bosses and the government officials are our servants. They must, at all times, be transparent and accountable to us especially on matters of public concern.
The FREEDOM OF INFORMATION BILL would give the public access to government records. The bill was already approved in the Senate but not yet in the House of Representatives. In response to the current controversy regarding the Pork Barrel Scam, the passage of this bill can give every Filipino a chance and the power to actively participate in monitoring how the government spends public’s money.
This petition is for the House of Representatives to approve, sign and pass this bill into law. Exercise your right. Sign the petition now!
