Petition for Safety Improvements at High Knob Entrance (Route 55 and High Knob Road), Warren County, Virginia

I have almost been rear ended waiting for a bus to load kids in the morning. It’s a very unsettling area to stop.

Far too many bad accidents and deaths over the years. :(

I have lived onHigh Knob for almost 28 years and the problem has only gotten worse with the increased tourism to our area and Hwy 55 from Exit 13 being the main route into Front Royal to Shenandoah National Park and other outdoor attractions. Hwy 55 needs a turn lane at the entrance of High Knob Road and the suggested speed of 45mph be made the mandatory speed limit and then be enforced by law enforcement. It would also be nice to have the hill reduced for improved visibility but know that will be very costly.

I have to travel this route a lot and I agree that it’s a dangerous situation for all. There are a lot of roads to get taken care of they don’t really need it at this time this should be a priority.

Having worked for Yellow Cab in Front Royal for a few years, I’ve seen too many accidents that a light (or even better, lower the speed to 35) would alleviate. Some of these accidents, although somewhat preventable, can get serious

That piece of road is scary! Lots of accidents because people coming over the hill don't see that someone is turning until TOO late. A left-turn lane would save a lot of grief!!!

I have rendered first aid at collisions at this intersection several times. Enough is enough! We need better safety and law enforcement supervision on this dangerous stretch of road.

This issue has gone on long enough and enough accidents have occurred. Let’s make a positive change and keep our roads safe.

Husband and I were hit at 50 mph on 2/2/2020 still recovering from injuries

I was rear ended on my way into the community and sent into the opposite lane by the person who hit me. If there were oncoming traffic coming in that moment I would be dead.

Even School bus's have been involved in accidents here.

Extremely dangerous intersection with accidents often blocking entrance to town and regional hospital for extended periods.

December of 2010, while at a complete stop, waiting to turn left into the community as several cars passed, I was hit twice and have permanent spinal damage…SUV was totaled! I’ve seen several accidents at our community entrance.

Please requesting to be approve. It it's really dangerous trying to get in or out of our community with vehicles driving over 55miles. Please assist Us

When approaching High Knob from the east on 55, we begin slowing down as soon as we pass the back road. We put on our directional signal and hazard blinkers to warn drivers behind us. Also, we rarely go into town from High Knob because it would require making a left-hand turn out of the gate onto 55. It's very hard to see on-coming traffic on 55 in either direction.

Yes, I whole heartily support this petition. I myself along with my wife have both experienced near collisions while turning into the neighborhood.
