Been a resident of High Knob for over 22 years. Have seen many accidents and they have been steadily increasing at the entranceway. In fact it’s become so common place that even people who don’t live on High Knob but in Front Royal or the county, know how dangerous this part of Rt 55 has become. The minimal rumble strips are several years old and are really pretty ineffective; drivers go right over them at normal speed. They don’t work like other rumble strips do (such as the ones at toll booths) and are too low or small to make any noticeable impact. Would help if they improved them. Why not try a single blinking yellow light, at the intersection, that “cautions” drivers traveling eastbound/westbound on Rt 55? Drivers will see that from a better distance in both directions on busy Rt 55/John Marshall Hwy. Could also consider, maybe on same light, a blinking red light (stop before proceeding) facing the entrance at High Knob Rd, but that is not as much the problem. Blinking yellow for caution on John Marshall, and perhaps blinking red at the High Knob entranceway. Most residents understand the cost issue, but would like to believe between all the local, county and state officials, there are some smart people who can come up with something, any solutions to warn drivers on a road regularly traveled at 50-55mph at all hours. Entering, and especially exiting is harrowing.

My dear friend was hit twice at the entrance of High Knob. Very dangerous going in and out of there.

This is an extremely dangerous entrance/exit , there are way too many accidents for this not to be changed. Let’s not wait for a child to be killed. Way too much traffic in the area and traffic will only increase over time.

Once that light is installed, there will be no way to measure how many accidents did not happen. Anything that promotes orderly stopping and turning on our roadways is a smart step.

We loved living in High Knob, but the issues with the entrance made it impossible to stay.

Very dangerous intersection. Needed to be fixed 20 years ago & has only gotten substantially more dangerous each year.

We urgently need to make this a safer intersection!

It is a must to make this intersection safer. People come over the hill to a dead stop. During leaf peeper season it is especially dangerous because people from out of town do not know.

Too many accidents there, lower the speed limit, add a light. Thank you.

How many more lives need to be irreparably damaged before change happens. Or does it just take one 'important' person to get hurt?

Very dangerous, there are blind spots. Not enough space to slow down. Two times nearly T boned there, morning and night.

My grandmother was a resident at High Knob. She got out of her car at the entrance of the community to help with an accident she witnessed. Unfortunately she fell and passed away in the hospital a couple days later from her injuries. I feel if that if the car accident never had happened, she would be here today. Her caring heart and wanting to help the victims resulted in her losing her own life. There needs to be something done at Rt55 and the entrance of the High Knob community.
