Hello friends,
I guess you all are aware that we (international students) are getting charged to stay on campus this spring break. I know how most international students can’t go back to their home for the break and has to stay over. I feel it is injustice towards us as we pay substantial amount of fees for housing on campus. Also, we were not charged for thanksgiving break and are getting charged for spring break which is unacceptable as the change is brought mid year. It puts all of us in weird situation as they are aware that we will stay on campus and would have to pay no matter what. It is exploitation of international students that we need to raise voice against.
I feel that we should come together and voice our concerns through this petition. If you agree with me and are willing to take our concerns to Reslife and housing please sign this petition.

just saw we hit 100 signatures which is honestly way faster than i thought. im gonna print these out and find a time to walk over to the housing office because this is getting ridiculous.

im honestly blown away by how fast this is moving. seeing so many people speak up about this housing situation makes me feel like we actually have a shot at changing things.

International students are already paying thousands of dollars for their tuition and room and board. Then to force them to pay an extra amount for the break when they already were allowed to stay for Thanksgiving break is obscene. Additionally, shouldn't room and board cover that one week, especially considering the costs traveling back home would cost them.
It does not make sense that we need to pay for Spring Break if we are already paying for the "Full semester of housing" why do we need to pay for this week if it is during the semester we already pay?
With housing making the decision of having international students pay to stay it shows where their value lies. Regardless of the price, making someone pay as if they have an option is manipulative. I really hope no students end up on the streets of Oswego due to this. Even then I doubt they would really care about that student.
I find it extremely unreasonable and downright greedy that the school is forcing international students to pay for spring housing. Especially when for some/most international students it cost $1000~ just to be on a plane for 2 days and they stay home for 2 days then 2 more days on a plane back. It is a slap in the face for student body.
Student housing should be free for international students because we still have to pay out of state tuition and it is a financial burden to go back to our home countries for such a short break. I dont understand why they are suddenly charging international students to stay during the break when it has been free in the past.

No people should have to pay to stay in their own room over a break, especially after the exorbitant cost of housing on campus. This includes international students and all other students. This rule is a nightmare for students with housing instability as well.
