I actually cannot believe I am typing this but we finally got the official word that Mister Jackson State University is happening and I am just sitting here staring at the screen in complete shock. Honestly after all the back and forth I figured this would take way longer than …
I just looked at the screen and saw 500 signatures which honestly feels a bit surreal because this started as such a small late night idea. It is wild to think about all these people wanting the same thing for the university even if my head is kind of spinning trying to figure out the next actual step to take with the board.

As a current student of Thee Jackson State University, I believe that having a Mr. JSU to serve alongside Miss JSU would be a wonderful idea. It would help to cast us as African-American men in a positive light, instead of always being portrayed so negatively.

They should have been had a Mr. JSU. I wanted to be the official male ambassador for the university while I attended JSU and hated that the title did not exist at that time.

I've always felt we should have a Mister JSU standing next to the queen. An SGA president is fine, but it doesn't really suit a Miss JSU. What if the SGA president is a woman? Will she have to be on the side of Miss JSU? I'm not sure how it would work, and I'm no expert, but all in all I believe there should be a Mister JSU

Times and society are changing. If JSU truly wants to be viewed as a school of fairness and equal opportunity, there should be a Mister JSU. Not only could more be accomplished, but it gives the rest of the Royal Court something to look forward to. Just think about it for a moment. There is a guy and a girl serving the Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior classes. If you are the guy and you serve those three years, what do you have to look forward to in your Senior year? That is unfair.

Although I feel a Mr JSU should have always been right along with the Ms JSU I do think this would be a positive influence on our young men. This may increase our positive male role modeling , increase communication, leadership and outreach skills.

A SGA president is not meant to be the face of our university, he is meant to put in work. Implementing Mister JSU would cut back on young men who run for SGA president just to be seen and not to actually do work for the university.

There are a lot of strong minded men in this world and that should be represented. This would also give a lot of men an opportunity to mature and learn true leadership amongst other skills.
