The United States is facing an alarming health crisis characterized by rising rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses. Poor nutrition habits and a lack of understanding about basic health principles contribute significantly to these health issues. While some schools offer health education courses, they often lack specific instruction on nutrition and self-care. We propose that the US education system implement mandatory courses focused on nutrition and self-care, starting from elementary school through high school. These courses should be designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and skills to make informed choices about their diet, physical activity, and overall health.
