Petition for Huntsville/Madison Area Catholic Schools to Join the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA)

Please consider this request.

I am definitely for it. I think it would be great for JPII, the Catholic elementary/middle schools and the students. I really cannot think of anything negative about joining the AHSAA.

Our son attended Holy Spirit School 1-8 & graduated from JP II. As a student-athelete (basketball & baseball) his JP II experience would have been significantly better if Holy Spirit had been in the AHSAA.

The public schools are allowed to do this. Why can't Catholic schools?

WE ARE THE ONLY CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL IN THE STATE OF ALABAMA WITHOUT FEEDER SCHOOL PROGRAMS. Come on principals, priests, boards, foundations and athletic directors, show us you care about our children and their futures and support them and allow them to show their GOD GIVEN TALENTS. We want our children to become the best athletes they can possibly become and let the world know that it was because of their GOD given talents, they are who they are today. WE WANT TO SUPPORT CONTINUED CATHOLIC EDUCATION IN NORTHERN ALABAMA AND GROW THE ONLY CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL IN NORTHERN ALABAMA TO MAKE IT BETTER FOR OUR CHILDREN. We pay for this opportunity with our tuition and please don't make us have to put them in other schools. We can go to ANY other private school in this area and play AHSAA sports. It is time the Catholic community in the Huntsville/Madison area unite and support our children. As Pope Francis has said, "Young people, do not bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you! Do not be afraid to dream of great things:" PLEASE ALLOW OUR CHILDREN TO PRACTICE WHAT IS PREACHED TO THEM IN SCHOOL AND MASS AND SUPPORT THIS MISSION.

Please allow this kids to further their practices in sports with other teams in the Hunstville area. They deserve it.

Holy Spirit School in Huntsville Al, please join AHSAA as soon as possible!

Wish this had been available when my son attended Holy Spirit! He now enjoys sports at JPII, but could have used the AHSAA competition ahead of his High School career.

As a parent of three students who were in the local Catholic schools from K-12, I believe that joining AHSAA will help keep student athletes in the Catholic school system by strengthening the ties between the local middle schools and JP2.

I think this would be great for our student athletes. We would love for our schools to be academically AND athletically successfully. We need to prepare our middle school athletes to be able to compete in high school.

Having our incoming freshmen better prepared to compete at the high school level would benefit every single sports team we have. Competing at a higher level in middle school as part of AHSAA would better prepare our athletes for the competition that we have as a 5A HS. Being part of AHSAA adds options in middle school for baseball, softball cross country and football (and more) which we do not have now. We now lose kids who move to other schools not only because of sports but also because of band. If the football team folds the band also suffers. Dance and cheer suffer. It's a ripple effect. Joining AHSAA is long over due and I fully support it.
