Optimal Vitamin D levels go a long way to saving healthcare dollars. While you're at it, make 25(OH)D tests a covered health service.

I think current data more than establishes that it takes a lot more than a couple hundred I use to reach 20 group nanograms per milliliter. Considering that 15 to 20 minutes and the sun is the equivalent of around 20,000 Iu...your current recommendation needs to be reconsidered...

I have been in a vitamin D study for two years and I know that my levels cannot be sustained at an optimum level of 45 without supplementing approximately 4000 IU of D3 per day. To keep the USA and Canada healthy, I ask you to re-evaluate your statistics.

I think that most people are well aware that the majority of canadians have low Vitamin d levels. In my nursing practice I see that 1,000 iu of vitamin D is often not adequate based on blood levels.
