As a student trying to get reasonably-spaced appointments, I am dismayed that people with more serious needs may not be able to get the help they need in less than 4 weeks' wait.

I have lost a number of UC San Diego psychologist colleagues because wages were not competitive in an environment where there were not enough psychologists to keep up with the increasing demands from students for mental health care. I hope that UC will take this issue seriously both for the health and wellbeing of it’s employees and its students.

Fair bargaining is what made so many fantastic changes to working conditions in this nation. Please continue this great legacy, and ensure that UC is able to retain quality care and talent at its facilities.

Nothing could be more important than the mental health needs of young adults as they struggle at times with a very challenging academic life and find themselves often away from home, perhaps far away for the first time.

Former intern and postdoc at UC Davis Counseling Services. Currently, I am a psychologist in private practice - I had hoped to have a career in university counseling centers, but burned out in an environment where we were understaffed, underpaid, and facing increasing student needs. Having a well-staffed counseling center supports student retention!

As a premed at UCLA and a med student at USC witnessing friends burn out commit suicide drop out was not so uncommon. A colleague taking their life while a UCLA medical student is unacceptable this went unannounced sadly

Mental health should be a priority for UCLA. It is a major educational institution that leads in research And improving society as a whole. For such a world class institution to have less than standard mental health resources for its students is unacceptable.

Equal pay for equal work is the heart of the issue. These clinicians give so much of themselves every day while being under compensated. While the issues are complex and diverse, there is no excuse for not compensating people fairly for the value that they contribute. And this does not even take into consideration the personal duress a therapist can absorb when dealing with an rapid fire caseload of student emotional needs. You are heroes.

Our work as staff psychologists is essential to the well-being of the students we value so much. Please engage in fair negotiations to ensure that we are adequately compensated for the work that we put all our efforts and energy into every day.
