PETITION FOR FUNDAMENTAL FAIRNESS IN STATE AID SCHOOL FUNDING
for MONROE TOWNSHIP, MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NEW JERSEY
We, the undersigned, are residents of Monroe Township, Middlesex County, New Jersey. We join with the Monroe Township Board of Education and the Township of Monroe in their continuing fight for fundamental fairness in state aid school funding. We hereby support and endorse the resolution of the Monroe Township Board of Education, which was adopted by the Board at the Board’s Special Meeting on March 29, 2017 and which supported and endorsed the legislative initiatives of Senator Linda Greenstein, Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo and Assemblyman Daniel Benson, as set forth in their letter to the Governor, Speaker and Senate President dated March 22, 2017 (“Letter”) to:
- Eliminate growth limitations and hold harmless provisions in the school funding formula in the current budget cycle to provide additional state aid to the Monroe Township School District;
- Reform the school funding formula in the current budget cycle to provide additional state aid to the Monroe Township School District; and
- Design and legislate a new funding formula, which will create more equitable state aid school funding for the Monroe Township School District.
We, the undersigned, implore Governor Christie and the New Jersey Legislature to take immediate action to address this critical state aid school funding issue in accordance with the Letter. The Letter and the Board’s resolution are attached to this petition and are also available for review on the District website.

Governor Christie and the state leadership are still ignoring our pleas while our schools suffer from this broken funding formula. We are working behind the scenes to push our legislative representatives to force a real debate on this theft. The silence from the statehouse is proof they hope we just disappear.

Monroe has been shortchanged by the state school funding formula for years! It's time for New Jersey to fulfill its commitment to our children at same level as those in urban settings.
Abbott districts have spent a lot of money without demonstrating much if any improvement. All districts in New Jersey should be adequately funded through the state. The burden should not fall on just the local tax payer.
Our class sizes are bigger than they should be for the teachers to reach each individual student. We do not have updated technology due to our lack of funds. To keep our students up with other districts, we need the proper funds.
This formula is totally unfair. Monroe has an extremely large portion of seniors on fixed income and taxes have risen in the extreme. NJ please fund Monroe schools because the many thousands of seniors cannot afford to live here. Equalize the burden!
I understand the need for quality education for our children-I wanted that for mine. However, taxing those without income and no children in school is not right. The developers are making a fortune-they should be responsible for the taxes. Let's balance out responsibility.
Increased state funding for our schools to stay relevant in the world economy.

Monroe Township needs State aid in funding to accommodate the rapid growth in Monroe school district children registration. Schools are crowded and all children needs fair education and infrastructure demands .
