Petition for Don Bonham's Miss 50

Erasure is not the way to interpret history. Work that challenges deserves to be seen. Miss 50 does this in spades!

I remember Don Bonham's work well and agree that it should be recognized. Loved his work.

He was an iconic art teacher at Beal. I was a student in his first art class. He blew me away, sitting cross legged on his desk in shorts with a red piece of yarn tying his ponytail he said 'So you cats want to make Art?' And art we made a 7" tall paper machete phallic symbol. He made us explore without boundaries. Bonham was an original.

Bonham’s contribution to the Canadian art scene should continue to be proudly celebrated. His practice as an artist and educator has had a significant impact on a broad community within the Canadian art scene. As a student of, apprentice under and friend of Bonham’s I credit his early guidance and dedicated stewardship to my own ongoing commitment to art making. I’m confident I’m not alone in that opinion. Canada’s multicultural development should continue to be celebrated. Are we going to censor European and Asian born contributors next?

He was a one of a kind artist who created works that are just not done anymore.

Don Bonham’s studio was around the corner from mine.

I reside in Hamilton, and the Art Gallery of Hamilton still has Don Bonham’s Dark Angel in their collection. It comes out very rarely… I met him only once, in Toronto, in the mid -eighties, he was a powerhouse.

Cancel culture is not the Canadian way. We welcome all points of view, healthy debate and Freedom of Expression as enshrined in the 1982 Canadian Constitution Reparation under the Charter of Rights.

Honour Don Bonham's sculpture Miss 50 and put it back into your permanent collection.

I met Don at his exhibition at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton, NB and loved his work! His work with human forms and mechanical machines is amazing. Look closer and see what you have. Move over and make room for Don’s work.

Please remember to honour all the work Don did for Lond ON and show Miss 50.

I went to Fanshawe College 1970-73 and participated in numerous Don’s classes. He was one of a kind…approachable, caring, unique and a great teacher. His art spoke about his vision of our society and is very relevant to not only London, Ontario art scene during his time there, but to Canada as a country. Miss 50 is part of history and should stay in London.

I'd love to take it for a spin

The whole body of art works...fine art, music literature is meant for discovery, contemplation and conceptional ideas. If a gallery de-accessions art like Miss 50 from a noted artist, it sounds like a form of censorship.
