Mr. Bonham was my major professor at Florida State University in 1978-79. He could be a sexist at times, but his artwork was a commentary on women as objects in the culture. Strangely, a message he personally understood! His piece needs to be contextualized and kept in Canada.

Deaccessioning artwork to gain more funding for a University institution is not right. Unfortunately it’s become a trend among Canadian Universities and especially those in Ontario to sell artworks or close galleries for capital gain. One example is Brock’s former Rodman Hall Gallery. As a University you have a responsibility to house and share knowledge. This includes art.

This is a sad trend at too many galleries and museums in this country: a disrespectful dismissal of significant artists, and a horrid jettisoning of important works. It needs to stop.
