The fact that this is happening is ludicrous. This email is apart of my professional identity, and losing is discrediting the work that it took to get this point in my life. The idea that no one has even formally explained this switch or asked for student input is insulting and irresponsible.

This is really very unfortunate. All of us have worked very hard to get to this point in our lives. The symbolism of removing .med from the way we send our emails, not only would sting in the present, but would very likely lead to credibility issues in the future (when applying for research spots, internships, residencies, and so on). This could also be perceived as a way to make all students appear "equal" at school (just a thought).

Why is this happening?

This decision was made completely out of the blue and without any student input. Please consider reversing your decision to discontinue use of the @med.wayne.edu extension for students

No one in medical field would take an email from "[email protected]" seriously. A med.wayne.edu email on the other hand is much more professional and keeps the medical school distinct from main campus. I loved Wayne undergrad, I really did, but I am not an undergrad anymore nor are my graduate classes held at Main Campus, and I like that my email address reflects that.

The med.wayne.edu email address is important to establish the validity of the sender. It is important to my professional identity.

I believe this is a significant detriment to my professional identity. Having a med.wayne.edu email account is my virtual white coat; it says a lot about me as a student and as a person.

Switching emails would have large scale effects (negative effects) on everything I've already established thus far and would be a huge inconvenience to myself and everyone I've been in communication with.

Something as simple as "@med.wayne.edu" is extremely useful to establish credibility as an email sender. Eliminating this would compromise the credibility of all Wayne state medical students and put us at a strong disadvantage while trying to move forward with our professional careers.

Yes, please. Allow us to keep our identity as medical students. It is absolutely unacceptable that most of the students would have heard nothing about this other than through word of mouth. No communication has been made through official correspondence, no attempts have been made to see what students who depend on email services may think. Utterly irresponsible.

Having the med.wayne.edu email address made me really excited when I started med school. I would be very sad to see it gone.

Well this came out of nowhere. I feel that information like this from the school admin should take precedence over "update email about another (failed) bed bug extermination" or "Your course pack is ready to be picked up". Why is the first time we hear about this is from a newly established Technology Committee and not anyone from the school administration?

This might seem as a small issue but it is not! This is very important for our reputation and professionalism.
