Petition for Continued Maintenance and Access to Two-Way Email Correspondence Through the med.wayne.edu Subdomain

Lots of professional contacts only have my .med email as a way to get ahold of me. Losing this email could cause me to miss important correspondence with professional contacts.

Let me keep my email address!! I don't see why this change is necessary

I need this med.wayne.edu email for professional connections, as well as paid for several years of it through the Alumni association. It would not be fair or right for you to take away what I paid for like that. Let us keep using our med.wayne.edu email!

No one would open and read an email from someone with email FU1234. Please keep our PROFESSIONAL @med domain.

I believe that losing our medical email address would make my correspondences with important contacts less professional.

Many important professional contacts use this address

I use this address for all of my professional emails. I am on important professional list serves that would be hard to get back on if i were to lose the ability to send from this address. It is an important part of my professional Identity.

It only portrays the school in a negative light to have its enormous student body networking all across the country with an email address composed of randomized two letter four number combinations. It would only serve to paint our university and its students as unprofessional, which could not be further from the truth and would only undermine the professional ambitions of the student body.

Maintaining the @med.wayne.edu domain is ESSENTIAL for all medical students. Especially in this era of primarily electronic communication, having an OBVIOUSLY MEDICAL domain attached to an email elevates the professionalism when communicating with hospital faculty, research programs and residency programs that is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. Wayne State is shooting itself in the foot if it follows through with these changes.

As a 4th year medical student, this change would significantly impact the way in which we communicate with Residency programs. Please consider stopping this course of action. Thank you!

This would be a severe loss for my professional identity and career.

Every medical school has an identifying tag in their email, whether it's 'med' or something more specific (like 'hms' for Harvard Med). It's how doctors around the country differentiate us at a glance from thirsty, thirsty pre-meds.

This is a completely disruptive and disrespectful decision by the administration of the university. I'm sure that everyone in the medical school agrees that this email address is critical to communications between us and faculty from both the school and physicians. It will be devastating to lose 2-way communication capability in one week's time, and frankly it is ridiculous that we were told of this through a non-official communication. This decision needs to be reconsidered immediately.

Please don't eliminate our email addresses. We have dedicated many hours preparing to enter this profession and deserve to maintain this distinction via our email addresses. We have made numerous connections with this email. Eliminating the address would only hurt our future.

I've used this email for multiple national professional organizations and to communicate with faculty who are unfamiliar with any other Wayne email accounts and it's a quick way to identify myself as a medical school representative when contacting other medical schools. I also know that most medical students have this type of account, why would we lose this? What would we gain by losing this? Most of us have never used our other email account and frankly I don't even know it's password anymore. Other schools will not be able to tell quickly what school we are with, we will lose credibility in our applications, and have difficulty completing coursework while having to change all communications with faculty.

See extreme conflicts with the people trying to match right now and email contact. Also medical sensitive information would be no longer protected

I receive and send communications via this email for professional purposes; changing it would greatly confuse my outside contacts and diminish meaningful networking opportunities.

As shallow as this might sound, getting my med.wayne email gave me a sense of pride. It also serves as a reminder that when I compose emails, Im not doing so as any graduate student, but a medical student. I get that there's been a lot of disappointment with regards to the medical field and professionalism, but the majority of us who hold a med.wayne email use it responsibly. Again, this may feel shallow but there's part of me that will feel inferior if my friend at MSUCHM/COM, UMich, etc. hold these addresses while we don't. That's my personal opinion.

Please allow us and future students to continue using med.wayne.edu addresses - they make communication much easier and more intuitive within the WSU SOM community.
