Petition for Continued Maintenance and Access to Two-Way Email Correspondence Through the med.wayne.edu Subdomain

I don't understand the rational behind the proposed change. It is my understanding the IT department is just creating more work for themselves. If there is a problem with the domain, they can simply change a line of code. I am sure IT is savy enough to handle that.

This is my $300,000 investment of a career. I have no doubt that my tuition more than pays for access to a professional email address.

I am signing this petition to protest the proposed discontinuation of the med.wayne.edu subdomain. My colleagues and I have numerous national and international connections that recognize our med.wayne email addresses, and we feel this proposal will cause significant problems with our professional communications. I urge you to seriously reconsider this proposal.

I don't fully understand why this change was deemed necessary and I would prefer to keep my @med.wayne.edu email address. Beyond the overwhelming rejection of this change from the WSU SOM student body, this change will create unneeded complications and annoyances for many researchers with the SOM who use their email on a daily basis to communicate with dozens of other researchers across the country. It is my understanding that those individuals have not yet been informed that they will no longer be able to send email from their @med.wayne.edu address.

Today I no longer have any access to my at med email and was in the middle of working on organizational emails, class work ect. It was my understanding that we would still be able to view these emails and receive them and that this change would not happen until 2 weeks from now. Raising Our Communities Knowledge has many community contacts whose correspondence may be lost or not be able to refer back to. While I am sure this is an oversight problems like this can severely impact productivity, stress levels and more.

Please do not change our email. The email @med is necessary for me to make professional emails as a medical student and upcoming physician.

As a third year student preparing to embark on the residency interview process, it's extremely important to me to make a good impression at my target programs. Further, I have many professional contacts who expect to correspond with me through my SOM email. I am surprised that this valuable service is being discontinued and I earnestly ask you to reconsider eliminating our *@med.wayne.edu email accounts.

For four years I have repeatedly heard from administration of the importance of using professional email accounts for communication. [email protected] is far from professional. Additionally, every medical school in the country assigns med.school to their students. This is a privilege and honor to communicate with other health care professionals with these credentials, and it is expected that your email will reflect this. Removing this address removes part of our identity as medical professionals, something the school needs to consider.

It would be an embarrassment for all Wayne State Medical Students and for the School of Medicine itself if this were to happen. I am not a Wayne State student. I am a Wayne State SCHOOL OF MEDICINE student and I pay $35000 a year. Where is my money going? How hard can it be to keep our emails up and running?

I share the same thoughts of my classmates. This decision is extremely unwise.

As a fourth year medical student with impending Match Day, I believe it is exceptionally unfair to discontinue my email that my future employer expects to communicate with me through. This discontinuation is simply adding to the sometimes overwhelming stress of medical school at large and decreasing students' quality of life by both adding more busy work to our lives and de-identifying us as future professionals.

Having a school email and being able to send from it should be a given at any professional institution.

The med.wayne.edu email address lends itself to professionalism and notoriety within the medical community. As we start our careers in medicine, it is important to distinguish ourselves in emails to other medical professionals. Losing this email address would make the road ahead of us more difficult and reflect negatively on us as physicians in training from Wayne.

I pay $65k in tuition. Can I at least have a med school email???

The change is just flat out inconvenient and and annoying, especially in the middle of the semester. I've been using the email to coordinate with my research mentor and have lots of saved emails on the address. Using a new email all of a sudden is an unnecessary burden.

The only reason I applied to medical school was for the cool domain name. Take that away... and my passion is gone. #@med.wayne.edu>@wayne.edu

I believe it is incredibly important to retain the @med.wayne.edu email address indicator and service, especially when communicating with faculty and physicians outside of the Wayne State community. Please take this into consideration. Not having a med.wayne.edu email address would make me look unprofessional when talking to doctors I currently work for and shadow at other hospitals, and would affect me in future settings.

Losing my professional email address is a severe loss to my professional identity. It is inane that Wayne would consider this.

Why would the even do this? So annoying. Administration honestly just needs to do less. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Residency and fellowship programs will better recognize an email from me if the address is name based instead of random numbers
