- Petition for Consistent National Standards in the Sale of Travel Insurance

Far too cumbersome and costly for our partners.

We at Boutique Travel Services sell Manulife Travel Insurance across the country. As well as booking all types of travel, we specialize Destination Wedding and Group travel. I may have a group travelling from many different provinces. It would certainly be much more convenient to be able to issue policies myself, rather than referring my clients to Manulife. The statement that Travel Agents would spend less time discussing Insurance is ridiculous and insulting! We would never let any of our clients travel without making sure they understand how important it is to have the proper insurance coverage, no matter what province they live in.

This is worth the fight for consumers! Trying to deal with insurance companies direct as we weren’t licensed in that province is a terrible experience when their trusted advisors could make this seamless and be able to Consult on the products and assist with claims.

Please review travel insurance licensing as many of us have clients that are in other provinces.

Please help travel agents sell insurance to customers that live across Canada without the costly fees and licensing. The products we sell don’t change from Province to Province.

I am able to advise my out of province clients and assist them in making decisions to spend tens of thousands of dollars on travel arrangements, yet I am unable to help the with their insurance needs to cover these arrangements. It really is ludicrous!

I have many clients in other provices other than the one I am licensed in who end up scrambling to find insurance on their own or having to go to my website where I am unable to provide advise on which package is best and why. Clients should be able to book their entire travel needs with me. I loose several thousands of dollars every year by not being able to sell it in other provinces.

I think the standards for sale of travel insurance across Canada are very limiting. I find it especially annoying that the banks can sell insurance to anyone in Canada and the agents are not trained!

Selling travel insurance needs to be easier for travel consultants — especially when working with clients from other provinces. The current system, which requires advisors to be licensed separately in every province and territory, is outdated and illogical. These licensing barriers create unnecessary obstacles for travel professionals and ultimately hurt Canadian travelers. Many clients are left confused or uninformed about their coverage, and too often, they travel without insurance — or with inadequate protection. It’s time for a national solution. Travel advisors should be able to sell travel insurance across Canada, no matter where they or their clients reside

I have clients in all provinces in Canada and I cannot protect them. How is this right? I have been a Travel Agent for 45 years and want to be a full service agent to my clients. Instead I have to tell them to find their own insurance.

As a travel agent based in Canada's smallest province, it's only natural that my business will grow outside of my home province. Getting licensed in every province will cost thousands of dollars, require hours of paperwork, and will be difficult to keep track of, as each license requires renewal every few years. No Canadian should leave the country without some form of medical coverage. Ensuring that thousands of travel agents, especially those who are home-based and working as independent contractors, are properly regulated in a cost and time efficient manner, will empower them to confidently discuss and sell the right insurance products for every travel client.

IMO, training and knowledge are more important that licensing/fees. I feel like it is a money grab, when technically anyone can sell it as long as they pay!

Time to be able to make sure Canadians across Canada are protected, no matter who they buy their travels from in Canada.

This policy has been a burden for years, it's time for some common sense.

Travel insurance sold by travel consultants needs to be a much easier process to be able to sell to their out of province clients. There is no logic to the system in place now that requires one must be licened in every province and territory. So many obstacles for the travel industry, which in the end leaves clients not propertly educated on travel insurance and also leaves many Canadians traveling without insurance or not adequate insurance.

It's time for travel advisors to be able to sell travel insurance across Canada - regardless where they or the clients live.

If our operators can sell online to out of province, why can't Agents? This needs to be changed fast, remove the borders in all aspects within Canada.
