We, the undersigned, believe it is vital that Bacon's College change it's admissions policy to include the following criteria:
- proximity
- sibling policy
- the introduction of feeder schools from local primary schools.
Our key reasons for this request are:
1. The school would better serve the educational requirements of the growing immediate local area for which Bacon's College is the only local secondary school.
2. The school would benefit greatly from the diversity of the immediate multi-cultural local area.
3. It would allow the school to build even better relationships with local primary schools and local residents.
4. It would bring the school in line with the admissions policies of other Southwark secondary schools. This is vital since most London secondary schools utilise local residency as a citerion, thus placing students in this catchment area at a severe disadvantage.
5. It would provide a fairer entrance system for local residents.

Being a peninsula Rotherhithe is exceptionally disadvantaged by not having a local secondary school which admits local children who wish to attend
Attending a local school enables a child to fully integrate themselves into both the educational and extra-curricular and social aspects of a school. A sibling policy is crucial to building school-home partnerships and a true school 'community'.
It's ridiculous that children living close by or within half a mile will not be able to attend their local secondary school, whereas children over two or three miles away can. There is enough pressure on working parents and on children themselves without this added stress of a long journey to and from school and the costs associated with this! Our local children should be prioritised and the rules changed.
A fair proportion of places for local students should apply . Schools are vital to the functioning health and pride of a community, community is local people
For me important issue is children's safety while traveling to and from the school. Shorter journey time and less need for public transport etc.
Completely agree with local schools for local children. Selective admissions criteria can increase inequality.
As a local resident of SE16 I fully support this petition.

Local schools with local kids are such an important part of building local communities. Also, something to take the overcrowding pressure at Canada Water must be good.
