The city finally backed down and agreed to restructure the water rates to something we can actually afford. My hands are shaking as I type this because it has been a long and brutal road to get here. Keep checking your statements closely to ensure they hold to their word.

This is a petition to the city of Ammon in regards to implementing an affordable usage-based rate water system. The document on memorandum that was provided to the public indicated the average increase per user would be $16.77 a month. That has not been the case as some residence water bills are coming in at over $500 per month and many are over $150 per month. Not only is this unaffordable by most families, it definitely stigmatizes Ammon and will deeply affect our property values and future sellability of our properties.

We petitioned the Ammon City Counsel to review the current water rate structure and make it affordable for the citizens of Ammon.

The bills are still coming in too high and my energy is fading but we have to keep going until they listen. We are nearing a thousand signatures so please get this in front of anyone else who is feeling the weight of these costs. I am tired of this struggle but I am not walking away.

August 24, 2019

The bills keep arriving at these impossible amounts and the fatigue is setting in for all of us. Getting this to one hundred signatures is a necessary step to force a real discussion with the city council. Keep moving this forward because we have too much at stake to stop now.

The rates have gone through the roof and my lawn is dying because of it. So I either pay $140 a month to have green grass, or it burns up and I still pay $85. The city of Idaho Falls has a flat fee for water. Whose pockets are getting lined exactly with this rate hike?

We and our neighbors have seen a dramatic increase in our monthly rates. This smells a hidden tax hike for the city and not based on actual water system financials. I challenge the city to open their books and show us the costs.

I help care of my widowed neighbor and while she was out of the country for two mons, she was charged with extremely high fees for her lawn being watered while she was away. Too many people can’t afford the outrageous fees.

I have wanted to move to Ammon for many years, but the cost for water, sewage, irritation, garbage etc. has always been high. Now it is getting worse. Please realize that you are referring people from moving to your city with these high costs!

I live on .75 of an acre and water my yard for 30 minutes 3 times a week . My last bill was $250 !!!! I watered my grass so little in August to try to lower my water bill that my grass was yellow and dead . This is insane !

I agree with the water being too expensive. We have many in old Ammon that are single or on fixed incomes who can't afford the high water rates. We take pride in our neighborhood and look out for each other. Something has to change.

Not metered yet, but its coming they are working on my street as I speak. I am so worried I wont be able to afford to keep my grass looking green, but the city just says put in more rocks. they don't care what the average person has to budget just to live. I will not be able to afford to water my grass, or let my grandkids run in the sprinkler next summer. It is unfair the price they have put on the water.
