I agree with everything everyone is saying here. This girl needs to be punished, otherwise she won't learn her lesson. Who cares if she's only 14? She should be expelled from school! Named and shamed so she knows how it feels. It doesn't matter if it was on campus or off campus, in this day and age schools have a responsibility to police the lives of their students to stamp out unacceptable thoughts, especially on social media.

As an STS Alumni (1978) I am disappointed at the lack of leadership that the school administration has shown in this as well as other previous cases of bullying. We were taught as students at the school to be leaders in our community and to step above the norm. School administration and the Board of Governors recently have failed to do so. I have always been a proud STS Alum but now...not so much.

Absolutely action should be taken! From what I heard from my friends who have children that attend this school, the mother of this child is on one of the boards for STS. This resulted in the school requesting that students do not get involved in fear of tainting their reputation. Of course initial reprimand was eluded until the more sophisticated students chose to advocate initiating action. I am not against private schools, but I am against elitist mentalities who feel money makes them exempt from behaving respectfully. Obviously this proves that private schools do not necessarily provide intelligence for some. Young people do not just come up with these ideals on their own, and we need to look at her parental influences that made this young girl publically express such hatred. A responsible parent would make their child accountable for their actions by genuinely creating a consequence to redeem herself. She does not have to be kicked out of school if she truly can see her impulsive and ignorant choice, and be proactive. Otherwise, there is no room in this world for such unnecessary vile banter.

You just proved my point that this petition is driven by lies. Firstly, the girl's mother is not on the board. Secondly, STS has expelled ONE STUDENT in its forty-five year history, and it is one of the most effective schools when it comes to disciplining students. You complain about a lack of action despite an investigation and eventual suspension of the student, yet incidents of far greater magnitude FREQUENTLY GO UNPUNISHED in the public system. Racism is bad, but you are directing your anger at the wrong target.

I doubt it. First of all, expulsion is illegal, and secondly, this incident is trivial compared to things that go on daily at other schools, ranging from knife fights in public schools in bad neighbourhoods to inappropriate hazing rituals at other elite private schools across the globe.

Suspension of one student?? No - expulsion. Zero tolerance on/off campus.

She should be expelled from the school. A suspension proves that the school is not taking the matter seriously enough.

I've had a blind eye turned towards me when I was getting bullied in junior high and it really sucked. I just had a school counsellor tell me to "wait and see if it stops." It was awful and I felt alone. And, I'm not even a minority. So I can't imagine not only being bullied so badly when I'm already in a minority group. This absolutely needs to stop.
