PETITION FOR ACCOUNTABILITY AND LEADERSHIP REVIEW IN THE NORTH WEST DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Subject: Call for Immediate Leadership Review and Accountability in the North West
Department of Education
We, the undersigned citizens, Educational Assistants (EAs), General Assistants (GAs),
and concerned community members of the North West Province, hereby express our deep
concern regarding the ongoing mismanagement, unfair treatment, and lack of
communication affecting the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) programme.
Background:
- The BEEI contracts were officially meant to run for six (6) months, ending in December
2025.
- Many assistants were appointed late, meaning the contractual period was not fully
implemented as per the national directive.
- The Department has now issued early termination notices for November, depriving
workers of their full contractual rights.
- Furthermore, payments for June remain outstanding for a number of participants across
districts.
These actions reflect a failure of leadership and accountability within the provincial
department, undermining the goals of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme
and violating the spirit of fair labour practices protected under the Basic Conditions of
Employment Act (BCEA) and Labour Relations Act (LRA).
We therefore demand:
1. An urgent leadership review within the North West Department of Education.
2. The appointment of an acting, capable, and people-centered leadership to manage the
department while investigations and reviews are conducted.
3. The extension or full completion of the 6-month contract period for all affected EAs and
GAs until 31 December 2025.
4. Immediate payment of all outstanding stipends and a formal written clarification on the
contract terms.
5. A public report to the people of the North West on how employment programmes are
managed and monitored going forward.
Our Stand:
We are not against government, but we are against injustice, silence, and incompetence.
We stand for accountability, transparency, and ethical governance that respects the dignity
of workers and the youth who depend on these programmes for survival.
We demand leaders who listen, act, and serve with integrity.

We really need to understand what is happening here, our contracts says this then the next thing they just decided to hang and move on like nothing happened...they are even failing to draft a 6 months contract because of why? Where is the truth in our contract or is just a piece of paper full of lies ?
Northwest EAs and GSAs should be granted 6 months contract like other provinces
I am writing to reiterate my support for the petition, which seeks to address the issue of unfair compensation for Education Assistants. Specifically, I am referring to the non-payment for the sixth month of work, despite the initial agreement. I join the petitioner in urging the government to take immediate action and provide the outstanding payment to the affected individuals.
It's not fair on us we were ready to start working but we were delayed It's not our fault that the project started a month after.
"I, Thato Tlali, do not agree to sign any termination form for 28 November 2025. I have signed a 6-month contract, so I don’t understand why it would be terminated. I will not sign."

This inconsistency raises serious questions of equity, fairness, and accountability in how the BEEI program is being implemented across provinces. It is unacceptable that we North West assistants should lose an entire month of service and income when we signed the same six-month contracts as our counterparts elsewhere. We have a right to receive an agreed remuneration on the agreed date and time ! Our Labour Relations Acts are being violated
