I'm truly disappointed in the patents of our community. I am a graduate with a 3.5 from Rigby, 2007. The ignorance shown is disgraceful. This is why the generations are so entitled.

As a former resident of SouthEast Idaho, I'm appalled that this is happening. Teaching our kids to think for themselves is vitally important to a free society!

Unless this is a farce, how could anyone allow this to happen in the first place. The book is about the exact thing the school just did. Government control to the extent of not going through due process to have an item removed from the curriculum. Tread carefully now, you are in the limelight yet again Rigby, and again for something you should not be there for.

This is THOUGHT CONTROL pure and simple. If 'they" tell you that you are not allowed to read 1984 then I strongly urge you to find a copy and read it! Last I heard Rigby Idaho is still in the United States of America...a FREE Republic... as long as we can keep it.

This is an invaluable teaching tool, give the students the option not to read the offensive parts and do not test on them. The larger gain should not be lost.

The book teaches a valueable lesson. In education we shall not blind our children from perspective vulgarities if such vulgarities are a inevitable manifestation in reality. 1984 is a powerful book that must be taught properly and carefully. But one cannot deny that the lesson learned is a good one to receive as a young American.

I am of the opinion that teenagers would be more prepared for the "real" world if parents didn't keep them in the dark about real life issues. This was handled completely wrong. An alternate assignment should have been given to this one student instead of depriving the entire student body from reading a classic piece of literature that everyone should read. Just shameful.

This is honestly ridiculous. There’s more to life than what you were taught to believe. The school wants to say it prepares students for college, but this wouldn’t ever happen in a college classroom.
