I think students should have alternatives if they don't feel comfortable reading this book, but banning it isn't the answer.

In the mid-eighties, Rigby High School had the highest per capita rate in the nation for high-school pregnancies. It was reported on the national news (Paul Harvey).
In 1993, I was taking AP Anatomy & Physiology (college level course) and School Superintendent Wilson demanded that the entire section on human reproductive biology was removed from the textbook and the students were not to learn of such things.
The biology teacher used a scalpel to remove the chapters but allowed us to get them and study them if we wanted. How were we supposed to learn this information to pass the test for college credit? More so, how were we supposed to learn how not to get pregnant or how pregnancy happens?
I am sad to see that such discussions and influences about education are still part of the conversation in the Jefferson County School District.

This is just a GOOD BOOk it's meaning is so much more than the eye can see.just cause some parent said no doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. Seriously. It's one parent. Anyways we are all basically adults here so just let them / us read it. Rigby idaho school administrators and etc are unbelievable and not good at their jobs and such -_-.

As a parent in the community, I think it is a travesty that 1984 has been banned at Rigby High. How ironic that a book about what can happen when government officials have too much power gets BANNED by those in elected positions. Such a shame.
