There is so much good to be learned from this book. Don't become the mistake this book warns against.

17 and 18 year old kids should not be sheltered from this kind of literature. This book contains issues that are real threats all around the world that can not be ignore.

Books should never be banned. I read this in high school. It wouldn't be included in the curriculum if it was inappropriate. They see far more inappropriate things every night on television. They probably talk about worse things as they walk down the hall in school.

This book was honestly my favorite during my high school career. It’s a lot like the workd today and I don’t understand why they would take something so important away just becasue ONE person didn’t like it. It teaches you so much and they need to get it back. Toughen up a little and don’t get offended by the little things.

It’s a ironic whoever decided to ban 1984 did because if you actually understand the book it’s all about an over controlling gov. Banning a piece of canonized literature is just silly. The school district needs to focus on educating the disgruntled parents who are too simply minded to do actual research. This is a high school kids at that level are more than capable of understanding the themes and the meaning behind the themes in this book. You need to focus on educating your kid not shielding them. The school district is obviously trying to cover their ass but they need to actually look at the benefits of studying Orwell and his literature and not take the easy way out and banning the book.

What is this? Are we in Nazi Germany or something? Banning books is progressive socialistic move that is defined in the very book you want to ban. We are not in the 1930s or even the 1980s. You protect your kids by educating them about despondent government and public entities not by banning books.
Really administrators? You have to be this petty and backwards to protect the kids? Maybe you should ban kids talking to one another because the conversations in the hallways I am sure are not pure. Get off your moral high horse. The principles taught in 1984 would benefit every person to read and learn and then contrast against the political regime of the most recently past president and maybe we can learn something.
This is why I am not always a fan of public education. Too many damn progressives in the system that do not want to teach truth.

I think taking out a book that is part of a teachers core curriculum for a trimester is extremely unfair. Most of all though I think have a book taken away for something so small as a sex scene that your reading it's not like you see it is completely immature. Time for kids to grow up and being adults about things of that nature. Sheltering and censoring kids from what the real world is like only ever impedes on there development. Taking away an entire book from a grade, because e of a single students complaint shouldn't be allowed. Are we really preparing student for college if things like that still continue. Does are school district think are college professors will give a damn about anything of that nature if we are so sensitive. No they will not it's time to grow up!

The book 1984 has probably never been more timely. If a parent has an objection, then the school can make accommodations for their child. As an educator, it is important that we allow our students to discuss difficult issues and develop their own opinions.

This shouldn't even be something we have to Petition about. People need to stop being wimps and let the truth out. So annoying. We've been reading this book in schools for years!
Absolutely ridiculous!
