This saddens me. Dr. Lambert taught me how to wield the Bible as a salve for wounds that will not heal, but Dr. Johnson has taught me how wonderful it is to have such a great father in heaven.

One of my favorite professors at Southern. Excellent professor, loved the Lord abundantly, and was super formative in my seminary career.

As a professor at a faith-affiliated liberal arts college (Greenville University in Greenville, IL), I am very disheartened to see SBTS exhibit such a strong disregard not only for academic freedom, but also good science. I stand with Dr. Johnson.

Counseling with the Word of God should have different approaches. Jesus is the only way for salvation. None any organization should have proclaimed they are the only one way for "biblical counseling."

Biblical Counseling is not the only means by which godly counsel can be accomplished. And giving in to churches who really do not have the best intentions is exhausting. Keep Dr. Johnson

2016 SBTS graduate.
This is extremely frustrating.
Dr. Johnson is an excellent professor that has enriched my life and the life of many students. His credentials & wisdom are unmatched. The accusations he receives are caricatures of who he is and what he teaches. The accusations he receives come from people that can't handle complexity. Dr. Johnson should remain a professor at the SBTS.

To my knowledge, Dr. Johnson was the only remaining professor at Southern who gave the Biblical Counseling program one ounce of credibility in the field of Christian soul-care. Under the instruction of those who do not consider the integration of valid scientific principles and approaches with sound Christine doctrine to be the least bit helpful in working with suffering people, there will be so much damage done to the name of Southern and the testimony of Jesus. As a therapist working in the field for four years, I believe this is tragic, and my prayer is that Southern as a whole would instead choose to move away from the philosophies of Dr. Lambert and closer to what helps those truly struggling with mental illness.

Dr. Johnson has been a faithful professor for over a decade. Nothing in his approach nor teaching has changed. This action shows that SBTS is changing and not for the better. As SBTS continues to narrow its understanding of approved counseling techniques, it has taken one of your own and made him an outsider - a fellow Christian counselor with a high view of scripture. It makes a philosophical enemy out of someone who is your friend and co-laborer. I am alarmed by this action. It is a symptom - not of godly orthodoxy - but of malformed theology. Please, correct this action. SBTS is a stronger institution with Dr. Johnson on your staff.

I am so sad to hear this news. I was counseled by Eric Johnson for two separate periods of time between 2009 and 2013. He is a knowledgeable, helpful, loving Christ-centered counselor that helped me tremendously.

Eric Johnson is a friend and fellow warrior in the battle for men to stand in God's grace and mercy. This is not a situation where SBTS is protecting the integrity of the institution or doctrine. This a a vindictive attack from an outside legalistic source. This is one more situation where those we are trying to reach look at Southern Baptists and say, "I want no part of their hate-based religion." I stand with my brother, Eric Johnson.

I used to be nouthetic counseling only, I disagreed with a ton of what Dr. Johnson taught when I was his student at Boyce from 2000-2004. I have since come to believe that Dr. Johnson's views are much more well rounded, approachable, less harsh and stoic, and more honest than my old nouthetic views.

I worked at SBTS for a few years, just completed my PhD. In the time I knew him, Dr. Johnson showed all of the godly wisdom and characteristics described in this petition.

Lambert' views are anti-intellectual and deny the gifts of intellect God has given humans.
