Retire his number, my husband and myself where there when this happened and I cannot tell you how upsetting this was for all concerned, not only his family but his workmates and staff

Whilst I'm a Northampton Town fan I'm more than happy to sign this as it is a ridiculous decision & someone needs to use their common sense & be sensitive to the situation

I used to watch Dale play for the old club when I was a kid and I always used to try to get his attention while we were celebrating goals etc so I could celebrate with him and he quickly became my favourite Diamonds player, he will always be Diamonds's number 1.

I think it's disgusting that rules overrule a decision of the club to retire a number out of respect for that player and no compassion is shown. Lots of premiership clubs have retired numbers of outfield players out of respect but that's ok. Come on catch up its 2015 and if your decision sticks then outfield numbers shouldn't be allowed to be retired. No compassion no respect

Another classic case of petty insistence of rules for the sake of them! Believe me AFCRD have an excellent case for withdrawing the No 1 shirt in memory of Dale Roberts. I trust that the 'powers that be' who run the Southern will listen carefully to the story and accept it.
