This has so shocked me and my family. For the sake of compassion please leave the #1 shirt and the memory of a dear lad alone. Dale's family, the club and her fans have suffered enough. This kick in the teeth is not only disrespectful to us all.. its inhumane. Let our Dale Roberts and our #1 shirt rest in peace now. Its what we all want.

A #1 shirt is not more important than the memory of a player. How can not using a shirt number be detrimental to the game.

What difference does a shirt number make to the League? None. What difference does it make to the fans of the club and family of Roberts? A lot. This is an opportunity for the FA to prove they're interests lie with fans, not pointless rules.

Why does it matter that it's number 1? My club Wycombe have had 14 retired for years after the death of midfielder Mark Philo. Retire the number 1 shirt for him.

I am a football supporter, but not of Rushden although they have a proud heritage. I support Manchester United and think that the league decision is wrong. Would the premier league take a similar decision relating to Munich? I doubt it !
