Come on Southern league, use some common sense and make a very small amendment to the rules.

The No 1 shirt belonged to Fale and as he died in such tragic circumstances it is only fitting that No. Is not used by anybody else.

Dont understand the league's stance on this. If they don't want to effect a rule change then just make it quietly clear to the club they are happy to allow the number 1 slot not to be filled on a match day. No opposition cares if the keeper is wearing 1 or 17. The league should be representing the views of its member clubs. There not on this one I am afraid.

it should be retired for a certain number of years as sign of respect, yet there are goalkeepers whom will proudly wear that number, with pride and respect to Dale Roberts

If teams can retire shirt numbers, like #12 - then why can #1 be retired as a tribute? I think Exeter have retired their #9 shirt for Alex Stansfield so why can't they do the same for the tribute of their own player as well. Poor regulations from the Southern Division - They should be ashamed. I really hope this petition is passed in favour of the club and supporters.

As a Sunderland fan, I have no ties to Rushden &Diamonds, however common sense means that they should be allowed to retire the shirt in memory of Dale.

This is actually horrible... Why would anyone be so heartless? The club has made a great gesture in the memory of a player and the league basically rejects it as if it means nothing? What has football come to?
