Good luck with this petition. Depression is a terrible illness and you have every right to mark Dale's memory in this way. I hope the league look on this favourably. All the best.

As a Luton Town fan i feel this is wrong in every way, I wonder if a Man Utd or Chelsea wanted to retire a shirt number would they be treated like this ?, Don't think so.

Dale can never be forgotten as he meant so much to RDFC fans. His death was a tragedy not just to us but to the footballing family as a whole. The Southern League Board should show understanding and maturity rather than alienating its followers.

Surely a club should be able to make a decision on which shirt number the players wear. Higher up league teams have squad numbers so don't need to have a number 1. There is a good reason for the club to retire this shirt so common sense should prevail

I'm Dales mam not surprised at the fans at Rushdons response at this news our Dale is well thought of and his spirit will always be there if I had known I would have been down to match today all the best for today's game loss of love Isabel x

If larger teams can register players as high as they like while leaving blank spaces, then it is not beyond the realms of possibility for lower leagues to do the same
