Ludicrous decision. Does no harm to anyone but means so much to the club and fans.

Dale's memory has been honoured and respected by fans across the country. The Southern league will not stop a fitting tribute for such a genuine, lovely man who left us too soon! Always Rushden's number one!

Dale was a Diamonds legend so as a true mark of respect for him & his family the number 1 shirt should never be used again.

that's what you get in football, the minority's opinion that matters, happens all over the place in football. Look at Fifa, so is it surprising it happens lower down. Greed and small minority opinions in a world that should service the fans.

This is something a lot of clubs do to show respect to their players. I am shocked that a league would not also honour and respect what this club does. 1, 17 or 13 does it really matter as long as the keeper is registered to a number. Evo - Stik league it's your turn to step up and show respect.

Ridiculous decision. No compassion shown whatsoever by the Southern League.

Clubs 'retire' numbers all the time - why go against the wishes of AFC Rushden & Diamonds - a club showing respect for a former player who has died tragically? Maybe it's the smaller club syndrome - one rule for the big boys, one for the rest, eh? Common sense, now, please!
