Quite shocking, I am disgusted with the league. As a player at the club since I was young I am just shocked.

Surely the Southern League can respect the wishes of a team which wishes to honour a former player who is no longer alive. Respect is, in my opinion, more important than obstinate adherence to outdated league rules!

Football is a family game and in Dale we lost a member of our family. For goodness sake grow up and stop ruining our image with your petty little rules. RIP Dale.

My son was a football scholar at Rushden and Diamond at this very sad time and I thought it a very fitting tribute to Dale to retire his shirt forever

The gesture of retiring the no 1 shirt should be commended. Its unbelievable that they are even considering doing this.

As a sign of respect, the number should remain retired! If teams in the higher leagues can do it, they shouldn't discriminate against the lower sides. #fordale

To force the number 1 shirt out of retirement is disrespectful to everyone connected to the Roberts family and rushden
