This will kill off local businesses as people will not go to pay those ridiculous charges. Locals wont go in the winter when we are the only people around....greedy money grabbing council

This is going to deter the residents of Barry from using their closest local facilities. Instead of going to a local shop or beach they will travel to a supermarket or beach where they can park for free. Its a shame that the people of Barry are getting penalised instead of being encourged to stay local.

Why should I be punished for not having a drive?

I think these charges will adversely effect traders and tourism in Barry.

They say it cost 300,000 to run and maintain. Well pay me 150,000 and I will look after them. And council will save 150,000

I walk my dog everyday down the island and have coffee afterwards. I will not be going down if I have to pay parking charges as it would be a very expensive morning.

These charges are counter-productive as they will drive people away

As a daily visitor to either Porthkerry Park, Cosmeston or Barry Island to walk our dog these proposed charges will impact me greatly . My walks are often with either a family member or meeting up with dog walking buddies. While minimal charging for under an hour may sound a splendid plan to the council, those of us that require slightly over that time will it seems face a large step in charges to full day rate over Barry Island. In any of the locations it will become an expensive option to take extra time for our exercise, wellbeing and to have the possibility to stop and chat or enjoy a coffee/snacks from any of the local businesses run in the affected locations. Although I live by several small parks where I could exercise my dog i find it more socially acceptable to find the larger open spaces away from children’s play areas and family spaces and I must admit that Porthkerry & the local beaches are one of the main reasons that living in Barry is so appealing. Whilst I fully understand the Coincil requires extra funding to meet the shortfalls in Central Government funding I believe this plan has been poorly researched and feel that the feedback from its consultation has been largely ignored. I feel extremely let down by the process the Vale Council has used during this proposal and my vote at the next council elections will most certainly be reflecting that !

If charges were introduced it would definitely deter me from visiting often.

I am fortunate being able to park free due to a blue badge , but feel that charges will stop visitors from coming here.

Please review these car parking charges on Barry Island. We need to encourage locals and tourists alike.

The new parking charges will certainly deter us ‘day-trippers’ from visiting frequently as we do now. We always spend money in local shops, etc. Sad if we can’t come as often.
