Petition against the proposed parking charges to Barry Island

Parking charges will kill everything that has been achieved in past few years.

Outrageous. It will discourage visitors. This means less money will be spent in the businesses on Barry Island. It will encourage visitors to park in the surrounding streets, causing a headache for residents who live on Barry Island

Shows a complete lack of imagination by the council . Lack of economic savy like understanding where your income comes from. New Zealand has no parking charges to ensue their towns flourish. When they’ve obliterated all the businesses that currently pay rates then they will have no rates no businesses and no car parks because people will stop going there

Businesses have worked so hard to get the Island to a place where it is a pleasure to go. By increasing parking charges people will not come to Barry Island or Barry Town

Enjoy visiting Island to walk throughout the year. Will consider alternative venues if have to pay for parking.

Disappointed with the Vale of Glamorgan Council for there out of touch behaviour

Love the Island and am there most days and know many people that are as well. Unfair to charge for parking for us locals.

These charges will destroy local businesses on the island, I take mtly children there regularly all year around for a walk, a coffee and ice cream, but if these proposed parking charges are implemented then we won't be visiting so often

In my opinion, residents to the area should not have to pay. Perhaps there could be a local to Barry car sticker scheme that entitles local residents to free parking. 1 hour free only will discourage me from using the area, including the local businesses that need supporting. 1 hour is not enough to have a good walk and get a coffee/chips. People need to be encouraged to do exercise. Having such a short time limit will shorten exercise time for people.

I bring lots of children down for the day with additional needs throughout the year all weather. Being able to park freely and not worry really helps the day and our enjoyment of the beach

Some more crazy council idea's

Retired, love the island for coffee at Marcos. Certainly won’t pay a fortune to park car. That’s so unfair to all locals who support the island.

Concerned about the impact on residents parking as people try to avoid paying and also concerned about the negative impact on the businesses there too.

This is absolutely disgusting. The island has just started getting popular with people coming to visit all year round. The businesses will undoubtedly be hit as locals and non local won't visit Barry Island as much if at all.

As a resident of Barry with only on street parking (no permit) and a plan to build 31 new homes in my street, I wish VOG council would consuder the many parking issues from the perspective of the residents/local businesses, sadly they seem more interested in making a quick buck. Where is the forward thinking here?
