Petition against the proposed parking charges to Barry Island

Totally ridiculous. For years now the island has been getting back visitors that were put off by poor facilities, lack of fairground etc and now they are coming back the Council are trying to cash in. Are we allowed to have a BIEXIT and leave the VOG council?

I’m a vale resident and support local businesses all year round. I’m really worried what effect these new parking charge will have on our small local businesses. I pop down daily to the beach either to meet friends, take the kids for an ice cream or a hot chocolate, walk my dog or meet new and existing clients. Myself and my husband also park on the island for the park run and to attend several bootcamps a week. We swap the kids over so that he can do his thing and me do mine. This will mean both of us will have to pay the parking charges...This will cost me too much money and will have to reconsider where I go for these important meetings and outings. I’m really gutted about it as it’s one of the main ‘perks’ of being a bake resident and also considering how much we now pay for council tax! Why can’t there be reduced prices or a permit for vale residents and those who support theses businesses ALL year round? Maybe suggest that if the money is spent in the local cafes and bars etc that the cost if parking is redeemed against the purchase? The mind boggles as to why these charges are being put in place across the Vale. My opinion is that we, as vale residents shouldn’t be charged.

Absolute madness. Are the Council trying to undo all the good work in recent times

£10 for a day is going to stop people from coming to the Island. I could understand the on street parking coming in line with current car parking prices, but do feel there should be a first hour free policy for on street parking and reduced rates during the winter months. Do the businesses’ staff get reduced rates for parking? Because otherwise they will be working for almost 2 hours just to pay for their parking!

Stop these charges before it turns into a ghost town and businesses will be gone forever.

Free for 2hours parking would be a good compromise as it will hit businesses in the winter and residence in the summer.

Ridiculous idea, VOG council about to ruin the resurgence of Barry again....

Shame of the Vale for introducing all year parking fee's. With the amount of land that the VOG have been selling off for MORE housing is this another ploy to try and shut down the rest of Barry and just have it as one big building site..

Parking on our street is already difficult. This will drive day tourists and day trippers into our residential streets. Please don't!

As a local who uses Barry Island everyday the charges would effect me greatly.

We walk our dogs most days on Barry Island and will be put off having to pay for parking.

Wonder why council suggesting this, ooh yes to get more money. Pay way too much council tax as it is.

Discusting pay way to much council tax, and all these houses being built over barry. Council just are way to greedy!!!!!!! Hope this gets stopped, think of the local shops who will be affected, by your greed.

Regular island dog walker especially in winter will not come if have to pay oarking. Dog walk longer than hour. Usually also buy coffee. Also island park run patticipant. Important health initiative people will go to other park runs with free parking. Many runners also stop for breakfast
