Petition against the proposed parking charges to Barry Island

Let’s keep our beautiful beaches free for all to use. How will this encourage visitors, and how very detrimental this will be to all our local, independent businesses

We're meant to be encouraging visitors, not driving them away!!!

I walk on Barry beaches every week. This will have to stop if l have to pay to park.

It's hard enough for the traders in winter less people will visit me for one.

Why charge for parking?! Cwmbran have free parking and it’s a thriving shopping area! Revive Barry, don’t strangle it with a reason for people not to go there!!

Why should we pay to park over the island it's just another place with a normal road. We need to keep some visitors coming to barry and the local people shouldn't have to pay to park their car . We have nothing in the town to attract people soon we will have nothing for being greedy

Dont do it. Be hard for small businesses to keep customers coming in

This will make people think twice about coming, meaning a loss for traders. This will also mean people will park in residential streets to avoid parking when parking is already a problem in nearby streets.

Why is the Vale Council hell bent on ruining the Vale and its beauty? Ordinary people of all ages enjoy the delights that Mother Nature gives us so freely. What right have the Council to take that away from the public.

Good work by councils and local traders and companies in making Barry Island what it is today. Should keep free parking on street and charge only for designated car parks. Maybe patrol the 2 hour restrictions better and the awful woeful parking attempts of some people via tickets but other than that why spoil people’s fun. Better structure is needed in the car parks anything over an hour £6 really ?? Why not go by a rate of say £2 up to 2 hours and anything over 2 hours a 5er ?? - many people seem to forget that only a couple of years ago out of season parking was free in the car parks , so by charging though winter it’s an income stream that didn’t exist a few years ago. Think the other car parks like Porthkerry etc should demand a small fee ( if any) . As Barry Island would obviously bring in a far greater amount of council tax from all the businesses, as many of them buildings are massive although was under the impression majority of shops on beachside are council owned . Barry Island is what it is because of the way it is as the saying goes if it ain’t broke ‘ ....

Charging for parking will reduce the numbers of people who enjoy Barry Island, and reduce profits made by local businesses. If businesses move away then the council will lose out.

I'm a former Barry girl with my daughter, mum and aunt still living in Barry. I often drive from Glastonbury to Barry to see my family and always have a stop off over the island for a cuppa or breakfast. I wont be doing this once charges are in force. There should be encouragement by local authorities to get people into the town and island, spend money in the shops, cafes, bars. The town is dying, don't let the Island go that way too. As a visitor they will deter me and as a former local, I'm disappointed. Would the authorities being retarmacing the carpark on old butlins site with the fees as it's not fit to walk or drive on.

Try to attract people to Barry island not charge them to park it will kill barry island

Being a resident of 29 years I think this is appalling

This will destroy the island out of season.
