Petition against the proposed parking charges to Barry Island

So much has been bone to put Barry Island back on the map it will vanish again and so will the prosperity.

VOG residents already pay extortionate rates of Council Tax – these proposed charges really are ridiculous. By all means try to extract some REASONABLE charges from “day-trippers” from outside the Vale – but Vale Council Tax payers should have free parking passes issued.

I am ok with paid parking, but it needs to be priced as to not affect local trade and tourism! Barry Island has improved its reputation over past few years and if done badly parking costs will take tourists away!

You want people to visit,but parking charges are charges that would keep people away,think in the long term not as a money spinner for local authority.

This is not fair on pensioners parking at The Knap who cannot walk very far and so sit in their cars or just outside on the pebbles. Can’t imagine that they will be able to afford the car parking charges! Also a lot of people park and go for long walks to help them keep fit. This is going to put them off if they have to pay exorbitant charges. We are told to try and keep fit .How is this going to help if people cannot afford the parking charges!!

You will make it a ghost town with all these parking charges.

I don’t see the need for parking charges!! Barry island is just starting to get on its feet again thus could cause more loss in the shall businesses try to succeed

All the council want is money ! Don’t do anything rewarding for the town.

No need for unreasonable car parking charges it is going to reduce visitor to the island and effect visitors plus Ron the street near to the island parking was increasing a hazard and a issue and this will only get worse and dangerous.

Extortion on enjoyment

Both my kids go to Barry island to do lifeguards with Rhoose lifeguards in April every Friday for 3-4 hours. They also do competitions all day during the summer on the beach. They have to take a lot of equipment so we could not walk from home. The cost of parking would seriously impact my discussion to continue this worthwhile life skill. In the future I would hope my kids would qualify as lifeguards and put something back to the community. (It takes years of training). You need lifeguards for the beach but u would be penialising all the lifeguards groups training on the beach. As a family we often go to Barry island but we will go less because of parking charges and spend less in businesses. The impact would be greatest on the poorest local people. Walking, swimming, running on the island is great for mental health. What funds you might make with parking ironically would be spent on other things since as NHS, picking up litter.Debbie Stevens

These charges will stop people coming to the area and it will be the small businesses that suffer. Greedy VOG council!!

I walk my dog twice daily it would cost me around £20 a week to park so would not be able to use the cafes ect as it would be to expensive. There are 2 large car parks we all pay taxes why are we pay for parking this council is disgusting look at there expenses champagne

A really bad idea. It's the dog walkers that keep Barry going in the off season. A charge will definitely put people off and they will go elsewhere

This is a disgrace. The one thing we love about Barry Island is the fairly cheap parking charges in place. Why change it?? This will only drive us all away.
