I'm graduating, but this new plan is ridiculous. At other universities with the buffet swipe programs, you can at least choose the level of swipes you get. Since there's such a huge emphasis on this, Miami should improve buffet locations. They poured so much money into a la carte locations and left buffets in the dust (minus garden and western) They're old, outdated, far away, and no one has the time to get there or a big enough stomach to make back the money you pay for the buffet credit.

Miami U, Cool it with the cash grabs, monetizing students is such a ridiculous choice; we collectively have the least money, and putting all of us in to debt is shady. This, parking, and housing are some of the most ridiculous cash grabs making it more difficult to be a student.

Alum/parent. When I went to Miami, we had a line set up in the morning in the dining hall where you could get a packed lunch made for you. It included a sandwich (lots of choices as far as meats, cheese, and toppings), a variety of chips, and veggies and fruit. I can't remember if it had a drink or not. But, the point is, you could get a lunch to take and eat wherever you were without having to make your way back to the dining hall. When we looked at the choices for next year as far as plans went, we weren't happy with any of them as our son tends to eat a la carte most of the time. Using a whole swipe for a meal when he's going to eat just a sandwich or something small seemed a huge waste of money. The fact that buffet swipes don't roll over into the next semester or year is not right. Why can't they? If we paid for them, why must they go away? Seems a bit shady. Since we, as adults, know how students eat (and they are telling us), the a la carte option needs to be greater. I would like to see a lower a la carte amount of money, maybe half of what is being offered for next year.

My family pays absurd amounts of money for me to go here, and I am willing to bet a lot of other families do too. The least you could do, Miami, is be willing to work with us and listen.

I think the largest problem that needs to be addressed is the $1,625 fee paid per semester. I agree that the "discount" students receive each time they swipe is illusory and does not add up to the total fee, so it isn't necessary. Instead, I propose that the current declining balance be used at realistic prices with no student discount.

Parent and Alumni - why is Miami making this so difficult? Why are you continuing to nickel and dime us while not thinking of what is in the best interest of the population that you are there to serve - the student? And not rolling over the leftover money? That's just cheap and dodgy. Come on Miami - you can do better than that!

I really don't even like the current meal plan but I like the proposed plan even less. Students should be able to eat anywhere they want, any time of day using a declining balance format. If a number of swipes concept is used, that's ok as long as the swipes carry over from semester to semester. College is expensive and students should not be expected to pay for meals they don't eat, period! Any money or swipes not used must be rolled over or refunded, end of story, otherwise it's just cheating.

I am a graduating senior, but if I was staying an extra year I would be upset with this. There should be a way to eliminate or reduce that outrageous fee and keep meal plans and options flexible for students - who are already paying a boatload to be here.
