let bowhunters hunt on weekends during january shotgun season and extend bow season till end of febuary and also have meat go to food pantries

An inside source at East Hampton Town has revealed to Hunters For Deer LLC., that the reason why the town voted to have the cull conducted by the USDA, was because they did not want to be forced to open hunting opportunities on town properties, to the west end hunters. The consensus is that "up island" hunters are not respectful and could not do the job! Watch the other towns follow suite. The way this goes down will determine if our group purchases hunting licenses next year, that's a given. Long Island needs it's own hunting regulations. We are not like upstate new york

The idea has been floated to introduce birth control hormones to the deer via darts. This may sound like an attractive and interesting solution for those who are opposed to both the cull and hunting, but the following must be considered. The way birth control is utilized and how it is highly effective for humans, should not be assumed will be the case for deer. This is not the appropriate forum to discuss the basics of birth control. We are adults and have or should have a knowledge of hormone based birth control used by Women. With that being said the deer will not be ingesting pills on a regimented basis and monitoring their menstrual cycles or maintaining controlled levels of hormones.The deer will be injected with a dart that may or may not introduce the correct level of hormones to be effective and for how long said dosage will be effective. Deer also have a far different ovulation/fertility windows then women. To introduce foreign hormones to nature doesn't seem to be wise considering what our society knows about the side effects of hormones and medications on people. If humans have an undesirable reaction to a pharmaceutical we contact our healthcare provider for guidance there is no equivalent in nature for wildlife. Anyone who consumes organic meat produce or dairy products is well aware of the negative effects of introducing hormones to food. Venison is as organic as it gets, as a conservationist I should not have to worry if the deer I harvest has once been or is currently pumped with hormones. This concept is not a novel one it has been tried in other regions and has not had the desired results. The effects on the deer would have to be studied in a controlled environment. These studies would take time and money before any responsible biologists would agree to their safety or effectiveness. In the mean time the population would continue to rise thus putting the herd further away from healthy carry capacity goals. It is great that this ill conceived cull p
