I think the uniform is a small part of a larger problem of micromanaging optometrists. No amount of form filling or planned patient journeys will truly deliver what patients want, which is to feel that their optometrist has looked them in the eye, listened to them, and has given them the help they need. This human connection is being squeezed out by shorter test times, longer patient journeys and additional tasks for optometrists to complete in the test. The evidence from other industries show professionals deliver better results when they are left alone to use their own judgement, rather than being micromanaged from the top down

As a professional person I disagree that a uniform enhances the patients optical journey.

I only work occasionally for Boots so buying a uniform to wear 2 to 3 times a year that makes me look like a member of StarTrek is particularly unappealing. I am happy to use a name badge and wear a suit which is quite professional. I will even wear a white jacket if necessary. I stopped using white jackets years ago as it often makes children nervous.

I think the uniform looks ridiculous and will not put patients at ease and it will scare the kids.

I had previously received feedback from patients telling me they prefer the optician to be dressed smartly rather than uniform.

Forget the 'look' for one moment. The underlying immorality here to Locum Eye Care professionals is the imposition to purchase uniforms and picture frames for the privilege of a days work. Why should we? is it not bad enough that we now have to accept lower rates of pay, a 2 month wait for funds, flippant last minute cancellations? Bad idea Boots. Eye care Professionals, do not stand for it. There are other locum days out there

If only Boots Opticians would recognise how integral Optometrist satisfaction is to the success of their business. And as for making the locums pay for it, I say that's absurd. Might I suggest, a protest boycott for a few days where no one locums for Boots?

Why should we pay for a uniform when we are not a resident who probably get their uniform paid for and when we get our day cancelled frequently.
Horrendous choice in uniform for which we are expected to pay for? What is wrong with dressing smartly? Last time they set out rules it was things like not wearing nail varnish and simple stud earrings! They've gone mad!
It's all politics...not about customer research.
