P.s. the polyester smock is so thin you can see your chest hairs and nipples through it so have to wear a tee shirt underneath which makes you sweat profusely - not a great professional look!

Surprising how many of these comments mirror my own experiences as a Boots resident. I haven't signed petition as my belief is "like it or lump it" if you want to work for Boots. I've been with Boots few months only and when asked in interview what my feeling on wearing a uniform was I said didn't mind, however if I'd seen it first would've thought twice about leaving my previous job! I think the advice of let your feet do the talking is the best but I think it worrying it is the uniform that has led to this. Boots insistence on an exact format to every eye test, including what you MUST say to EVERY patient and their ridiculous prescreening format that has unqualified staff taking reason for visit investigatory history (part of the protected criteria of sight test and should only be performed by registered professional ie the optom!) as well as poor clinic management from the start (poorly trained I'll advised call centre operatives, lengthy prescreening format, understaffed stores)and impossible expectations on test times which leaves you working most of your dinner break should be enough to make any self respecting professional walk away and never come back. My realisation that these issues appear to be led by the head office and area management teams has been all I need to say enough is enough.

Not only do they cancel your bookings at the last minute they now expect you to carry a copy of your qualification wherever you go and dress like Mr Whippy. Appalling!

The person within Boots at their head office responsible for this push for uniform is actually an Optometrist by the name of Richard Edwards.

Why does boots want us to become shopticians. Do they want the public to undervalue us and our work as clinicians even more. Disgusting.

I have not seen an Optom poorly dressed!!!! Ask for smart/business wear or WHITE shirt and BLACK suit, if uniformity is the problem.

Nothing new. Specsavers insisted on white clinical jackets in 1994. Looked so cheap and tacky as this will. It lasted a few months and got dropped. We're not dentists with saliva getting sprayed on us (well maybe by some patients). I would find it hilarious if I were a patient seeing an optom weraing this. I would just think they were a doctor wannabe! Still keeps people in Nottingham employed coming up with "great" ideas, shame they can't concentrate their efforts on sorting the locum cover out correctly so we don't get cancelled at the last minute all the time.
