Beth, As of yesterday, Scott Buzzelli and Brian Yarnal have withdrawn their application for an ABC license to develop a farm brewery and event center just outside of Middleburg.

Please don't let this happen. It is not in keeping with what makes Middleburg special. I know it says 10 acres but chipping away at the fields surrounding the town is how a town goes from being like Middleburg to being like Leesburg!

Totally inappropriate place for such a commercial enterprise. This is not even within the spirit of current zoning-which the State has already damaged by their winery attempted mandates. The constitution makes property rights and therefore uses, an entirely local matter for locally elected officials. This “one off” ad hoc petitioning of commercial uses only points out the inadequacies of local government to insist on a comprehensive planning initiative. If the residences of the County wish to change the comprehensive plan to allow more commercial uses in agricultural and residential zoning, then let the County commence a broad review and hearing process that will hear all viewpoints of any changes proposed, and thereby give zoning officials more specific guidance. Instead, this “one off” request for use only serves to weaken the views of the neighbors and creates an uncertain future for all other County residents and land owners. Uncertainty is bad policy. Reject this request.

The pure beauty of the Route 50 corridor on the west side of Route 15 is living history. This brewery is the first step to destroy the historic beauty of western Loudoun County and Northern Fauquier County.
