I'd think there would be a better and more pressing use of funds. The light pollution from this sign is likely not only to be an eyesore in the neighborhood but be a real intrusion of the immediate neighborhood. If you don't believe me, just ask the neighbors of the Regal Theatre....

I am opposed to any type of electric sign being installed on 15th Street to mark the entrance to Lowell Elementary School. It is not befitting this quiet, residential neighborhood. This vast amount of money should instead be spent on educational programs for the school.

A reader board may be a good idea but what neighborhood, any neighborhood, would like an 8 foot flashing sign. 8 feet is intrusive enough. I can imagine someone cruising down the street and seeing the flashing lights and promptly crashing into a parked car. Definitely not.

It is ludicrous to put a large electronic reader board at Lowell School. This is a small neighborhood school on a narrow street. There are few schools in Bellingham with such close proximity to family homes, just a few short feet in some cases. A reader board and such a large one is out of place in this community and a completely unnecessary expense. Who would want a large, flashing sign in their neighborhood? Would you?

As a parent at Lowell school, contact is frequent through multiple methods of outreach. A sign is redundant, antiquated, and a negative impact on immediate neighbors and the character of the neighborhood.

I live on 15th St, my two kids attended Lowell School. We love it! I receive many emails from Lowell, Bellingham School district, PTA’s and class parents regarding Lowell events. I don’t see the reason for spending money on a reader board. We’ve made it this far without one!

Please reconsider the placement of a large, well-lit sign in our neighborhood. When the school considered a remodel several years ago, neighbors were informed and meetings were held. It's called "being good neighbors". After all, this is a NEIGHBORHOOD. The same should happen with this signage and change of entry to the school from 14th (a major route) to 15th (a quiet neighborhood route). The remodel of several years ago had the neighborhood benefit of impacting our parking. Let's not make the same mistakes again.

I do not think these are necessary for educational purposes at an elementary neighborhood school. They are a distraction to drivers and pedestrians alike. I dislike billboards and I intensely dislike graphic, moving displays due to the unsafe behaviors attributed/associated with them.

Can't think of a more ridiculous way to spend taxpayer dollars. Our family is definitely opposed to billboards in residential neighborhoods.
