This would destroy the property values of surrounding neighborhoods.

I oppose this and am not racist. My neighborhood consists of all colors. And you know what? Every single white, black, Hispanic worked just as hard as I did to get there. This isn't about race. This is about working hard for safety, for a nice neighborhood to raise my kids in. Those who work hard for something take care of it. And respect others. Those that give excuses and blame others for their downfalls and get hand outs do not respect or take care of their property or respect the people that worked hard to get here. That is the problem. Let's stop blaming race for everything.

Who is them? Wouldn't it be easier if you just said "black people"?

I am fervently opposed to this development. HUD housing is statistically shown to increase crime and decrease quality of schools in the surrounding communities; both factors of which can lower property values. As the proud father of two children, this is absolutely a deal-breaker for me. I am all for providing lower-income families the best head start we can as a society, but I cannot do so at the expense of my own children.

Let people work their way out of low income areas. Don't just shuffle them around the city driving down housing value of neighboring homes.

It is unfair for us that have worked hard to live in a nice neighborhood, for you to bring in low income housing and being down the values of our homes when we are the ones who actually work and pay taxes! Keep them where they are... in low income neighborhoods. Most of them make no effort to better their own situation so why let them ruin ours????

I am against the Paseo Gateway Development. This isn't about race, it is about the safety of my children, the value of my property, and the future of my family that live in this area.

I just wanted to provide some accurate information here. First this is all paid for by a 30-90 million dollar federal grant jointly received by the city and the Housing Authority (the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative) to build new developments for everyone. Not just low income. Most of the apartments will be for regular full income working families or individuals and low income working families or individuals. A much smaller portion will be for Public Housing residents. Millions will be spent in salaries to hire persons and companies to complete the construction. Chouteau Court is already virtually empty with the tenants already having been transferred to other existing developments. Contrary to everyone's belief. Housing Authority developments have been consistently lower in crime than the surrounding areas due to the strick lease enforcement and a no criminal record requirement for all applicants. Just something to consider and try and be rational.
