Stop the Violence and Corruption at University of Abuja: Justice for Students Attacked Over Illegal Land Acquisition
Petition To:
· The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command
· The Minister of Education, Federal Republic of Nigeria
· The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
· The Director, Department of State Services (DSS), FCT Command
. National Human Rights Commissions
We, the undersigned students, alumni, and concerned Nigerians, condemn in the strongest terms the brutal attack on students of the University of Abuja on [Date]. This violence was a direct result of the students' peaceful opposition to the illegal acquisition and construction on university land, and we demand immediate justice and action.
The core of the issue is the alleged corruption and illegal sale of university land for the construction of private houses and shops. When our Student Union Government (SUG) leaders, including the President, rightfully stood up to protect public property from this land grabbing, they were met with extreme violence.
On 4th September, 2025, armed thugs were brought onto the Mini Campus to intimidate and silence protesting students. These hoodlums launched a vicious, premeditated attack, severely injuring our SUG President and many other students who were defending the integrity of their institution.
This is not just an assault on students; it is an attack on public trust, a blatant case of corruption, and a violent obstruction of justice. It represents a dangerous collusion between criminal elements and those who seek to profit from the illegal seizure of public land.
We hold the university administration primarily responsible for the security of its students and the management of its land. This violent incident is a direct consequence of their failure in both duties.
Therefore, we demand the following immediate actions:
1. Immediate Arrest and Prosecution: The immediate identification, arrest, and prosecution of the h
