The developer seeks to average this building in with factories, warehouses and examples of real estate exploitation of the Greenwich Village of the past. The mass and scale of this building would "gloom up" the neighborhood - block out sunlight and sky from the life of the street, a very vital aspect of the Greenwich Village it seeks to exploit.
Also, the glassy street side look that is carried out to the front lot line is more appropriate for a high-tech campus or government minimalist structure of the 50's or 60's, but even these called on the good grace of some landscaping.
Please decide against this application.

Please consider in particular the proposed design's very negative impact on this delightful block of Jane Street as a consequence of the high proportion of the façade that is glass. Reflected sunshine during the day, and light from the windows at night, would turn the intimate "street feel" into an almost carnival-like brightness that is not at all in keeping with the neighborhood's side streets.

What's the point of landmarking the Village if you let a single wealthy developer violate the reason its intimate, tree-lined streets were preserved by putting up a building that bears absolutely no relationship in design, material or scale to anything else in the neighborhood? If this goes up it will devalue hundreds of other surrounding homes by destroying views and light. It will also likely eradicate the quiet of our streets and gardens with the machinery needed to run central a/c and underground garages—all for a mere 7 households. More important, if this building goes forward as planned, more will follow. Why bother with the fiction of landmarking at all?

This proposal is contrary to the historic preservation of the village. If each owner of a building of similar size (estimated 45 feet tall) could replace it with on three times taller the village would be utterly ruined and devalued. Many if not most people purchase homes and apartments at high prices in the village because of the expectation that change is extremely limited. Destroy that feature and you destroy significant value.

Please let the village remain a village! I am adding my voice to the preservation of the historic integrity of the village by keeping the garage on 11 Jane Street intact. This building adds to the unique charm and feel of the West Village. Whether it serves as a much needed garage for residents or is converted for another purpose I request that this building be protected from demolition and that the facade and structure remain the same.
