The average cost of a vet visit has risen from $161 in 2022 to $190 in 2023. This sharp increase is unsustainable for many pet owners, particularly those facing financial difficulties.
2. #PetLivesMatter: Pets are cherished members of our families, and their well-being should not be compromised due to rising costs and inadequate support. We need comprehensive policies and services to ensure all pets receive the care they deserve, regardless of their owners' financial situations.
3. Lack of Supportive Laws: Current laws and regulations do not adequately address the welfare of our furry friends. The absence of supportive policies leaves many pet owners struggling to provide essential care, exacerbating issues of pet abandonment and neglect.
We Urge the Nevada State Legislature and Governor to:
1. Establish Free Animal Clinics: Create state-funded clinics dedicated to providing free or low-cost veterinary care for pets, particularly for homeless individuals and those experiencing financial hardships. These clinics would offer essential services, such as vaccinations, check-ups, and emergency care, ensuring that all pets receive the necessary care.
2. Promote Affordable Pet Care: Implement measures to control the rising costs of veterinary care, making it more accessible for all pet owners. This includes exploring subsidies or financial assistance programs for those in need.
