The galamsey practice has resulted in serious degradation of our lands, destroyed our vegetation and above it all polluted major water bodies in the country. This is a matter that needs urgent attention and measures to permanently end the practice to help restore our water bodies.

The practice has now affected our cocoa production, as the galamsey practice has left traces of mercury used in the practice in harvested cocoa pods and the eruopean market is threatening to not buy our cocoa as a result of this.

Let's not look at just the cocoa sector. Let's as well look at other food stuffs we export that can as well be banned from going out of the country as a result of our water bodies being polluted because, the idea will be that, we water these crops with the polluted water.

On the other hand, have we thought of our source of water for consumption in about 5 to 10 years when all our water bodies are destroyed and dried up?

It's time we end Galamsey permanently.
