CONSULT AND INFORM THE CITIZENS OF CAMROSE

We, the undersigned residents of Camrose, call the attention of the elected council of the City of Camrose to the following: THAT - Public input is essential to the municipal decision process, and should be considered by council as such. - Much of the business of municipal councils is greatly enhanced by public input. - City council does not recognize public consultation and input as a priority. - City council fails to appropriately inform and engage citizens. - City Council neglects to make public decisions an inclusive process involving all residents and taxpayers of Camrose. - Every resident has the right to be heard by their city council and administration in an easy, expedient and direct method. - City council currently employs processes and procedures that are inherently difficult for members of the public to navigate, inhibiting and discouraging public input. THEREFORE We, residents and taxpayers of Camrose, insist that the elected Council of the City of Camrose immediately address the above issues by: - Immediately prioritizing the involvement of the residents of Camrose in the decision making process. - Without delay, actively engaging the public in a dialogue using a variety of methods, including the use of the new city website, making public input convenient for every person, across the full spectrum of demographics. - Making all public documents, including, but not limited to, those distributed to members of council, openly available on the City of Camrose website without the need for request. - Holding a town hall meeting to establish a bylaw or resolution making open access to public documents and public consultation mandatory at a level agreeable to both residents and council. - Establishing an official committee of citizens to ensure that residents are, in fact, being well informed and input is being actively encouraged and sought.
