This 4th of July on the Long Beach Peninsula was a disaster. One death, illegal fireworks going off day & night for weeks, illegal beach camping, illegal campfires, and the usual spill over into residential areas. We, the undersigned, ask for extra city, county, and state funding to provide for the health, safety, and welfare of peninsula residents. We are fed up with the war zone that our 4th of July has become and the lack of enforcement of our illegal fireworks/curfew laws that endangers our beach, our homes, and our families and pets.

I am so afraid of the forest behind me burning because of the fireworks going off in the street just a few yards away. Also my dogs are terrified all night long for the whole week even though the fireworks are only allowed for three days they are shot off all week long.

Something must be done. We are already very short on law enforcement manpower and it shows! Drive from Ocean Park to Ilwaco just once and you'll see what I mean. Read the Dispatch Reports in the Chinook Observer AND the Court Reports. This and other holidays are now and are getting even more out of hand with each passing year.

Let's all help to keep our beach clean and safe for everyone to enjoy all the time.

Stop the celebration from beginning a week ahead of the 4th. No camping on beaches!

Peninsula Residents Matter, each year two weeks before and after with the worst of it around the 4th! As the Daily Astorian editorial said, "Enough is enough!"

This has to change. We are letting people TRASH our beach.
