The Normanhurst Boys High School peer support system has stayed the same for many years: the students are selected in year 10 and then go onto become student peer support leaders in year 11. It has been brought to our attention that many of the year 10 (2015) students will not be given a fair go at becoming student peer support leaders as there will only be twenty students who will become student peer support leaders. Vice versa the year 9 students will also not have a fair chance at becoming a peer support leader and with the program joining the two grades means that several students will not be able to join the student peer support leadership team with their cohort. We believe that the school should keep the same leadership program and system in place to fairly benefit all students.

Updates

November 12, 2015

The momentum is incredible. This shows the school that we are serious about keeping our leadership system fair.

Really unintelligent ,barely thought out change . The current system is perfectly fine , and teachers don't understand that by changing the system they are butchering our chances of becoming support leaders, when year nine would be trying out anyway next year !

I think that everyone deserves the same opportunity and it would be both unfair not only to you guys but for us as well if only 20 for both grades can participate.

When we were informed about the change, most of us were confused, as the current peer support system was fine. Now that the school wants to introduce a new system, both grades chances are halved- this change has more disadvantages than advantages.

Yes. I definitely support this petition. The current system is fair and stable and if the new system is implemented, students' chances of becoming a Peer Support Leader would be much more slim. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Year 10 has waited a long time for this opportunity. This change means halving the chances of a student from either grade of becoming a peer support leader.

Although i would love to be a peer support leader next year as my brother will be in year 7, I feel that it is not fair on both years to share peer support. Also, I think that if our year were to do peer support we may not be as mature as the year tens.

There was no need for change. With this change it brings unfair chances for both grades to get into peer support
